Life means giving and taking:

exchange, transformation.

It is breathing in and breathing out.

It is not the taking possession of anything,

but a taking part in everything

that comes in touch with us.

It is neither a state of possession

nor of being possessed,

neither a clinging to the objects of our experience

nor a state of indifference,

but the middle way,

the way of transformation.

We are transformed by what we accept.

We transform what we have accepted

by assimilating it.

We are transformed by the act of giving,

and we contribute to

the transformation of others

by what we are giving.

He who opposes this process of transformation

will die the slow death of rigidity …

Life is really about

a spiritual unfolding

that is personal and enchanting—

an unfolding

that no science or philosophy

or religion

has yet fully clarified.

Well, I believe life is a Zen koan,
that is, an unsolvable riddle.
But the contemplation of that riddle –
even though it cannot be solved –
is, in itself, transformative.
And if the contemplation
is of high enough quality,
you can merge with the divine.

October 25 flowers and berries 002

The sun continuously pours forth

Light and Life.

Ra nurtures all vegetation,

gathering the first fruits

produced by the power of his rays,

as if in his mighty hands,

bringing out sweet perfumes from the plants.

In the same way,

our souls, like heavenly flowers,

are nurtured by the Light of Atum’s wisdom,

and in return,

we should use in his service

all that grows within us.
