A human being is a part of the whole called by us universe,

a part limited in time and space.

He experiences himself, his thoughts and feeling

as something separated from the rest,

a kind of optical delusion of his consciousness.

This delusion is a kind of prison for us,

restricting us to our personal desires

and to affection for a few persons nearest to us.

Our task must be to free ourselves

from this prison

by widening our circle of compassion

to embrace all living creatures

and the whole of nature in its beauty.

Stop acting so small.

You are the universe in ecstatic motion.

When all our obstacles have been overcome,

and we find ourselves in a state of total presence,

the wisdom of enlightenment

manifests spontaneously

without limits,

just like the infinite rays of the sun.

The clouds have dissolved,

and the sun is finally free

to shine once again.

Space, time,
matter, energy and biological life
may be the result
of a Source Field
that is conscious and alive
in its own unique way –
on a scale far too vast
for the finite mind to fathom.

The wave does not need to die to become water.

She is already water.

All the Buddhas and all sentient beings

are nothing but the Universal Mind,

beside which nothing exists.

This Mind, which is without beginning,

is unborn and indestructible.

It is not green nor yellow,

and has neither form nor appearance.

It does not belong to the categories

of things which exist or do not exist,

nor can it be thought of

in terms of new or old.

It is neither long nor short,

big nor small,

for it transcends all limits,

measures, traces, and comparisons.

The small wisdom is like water in a glass:
clear, transparent, pure.
The great wisdom is like the water in the sea:
dark, mysterious, impenetrable.

….  The Ground of all Being contains all the opposites.
From the One, all things originate.
What a waste of time to choose between coarse and fine.
Since the Great Mind gives birth to all things,
Embrace them all and let your prejudices die.  (continued)

….   All the opposing pairs come from the One Great Buddha Mind.
Accept the pairs with gentle resignation.
The Buddha Mind stays calm and still,
Keep your mind within it and nothing can disturb you.

The harmless and the harmful cease to exist.
Subjects when disengaged from their objects vanish
Just as surely as objects,
when disengaged from their subjects, vanish too.
Each depends on the existence of the other.
Understand this duality and you’ll see
that both issue from the Void of the Absolute.   (continued)

…If you want to encounter your Buddha Mind
Don’t have opinions about anything.
Opinions produce argument
And contentiousness is a disease of the mind.

Plunge into the depths.
Stillness is deep. There’s nothing profound in shallow waters.
The Buddha Mind is perfect and it encompasses the universe.
It lacks nothing and has nothing in excess.
If you think that you can choose between its parts
You’ll miss its very essence….  (continued)
