The lotus is the most beautiful flower,

whose petals open one by one.

But it will only grow in the mud.

In order to grow and gain wisdom,

first you must have the mud —

– the obstacles of life and its suffering. …

The mud speaks of the common ground

that humans share, no matter what

our stations in life. …

Whether we have it all

or we have nothing,

we are all faced with the same obstacles:

sadness, loss, illness, dying and death.

If we are to strive as human beings

to gain more wisdom,

more kindness and more compassion,

we must have the intention

to grow as a lotus

and open each petal one by one.

Where beauty is, then there is ugliness;
where right is, also there is wrong.

*
Knowledge and ignorance are interdependent;
delusion and enlightenment condition each other.

*
Since olden times it has been so.
How could it be otherwise now?

*
Wanting to get rid of one and grab the other
is merely realizing a scene of stupidity.

*
Even if you speak of the wonder of it all,
how do you deal with each thing changing?

It is the deadly sameness of machine-made things

and of a life governed by technology

which perverts the mind and kills the spirit.

*

Infinite variety is the hallmark of the creative genius;

sameness the hallmark of mediocrity and decadence.

The symbol of the machine is the wheel.

*

The machine-wheel is the symbol of Samsara,

of ever-recurring birth and death,

of the inescapable law of existence. ..

*

But there is another wheel, an invisible one,

which does not revolve

but which radiates and pervades every form of life.

It is the Dharma-Cakra

and he who realizes it,

realizes his universality and the infinite relationship

of all things and forms of appearance,

without denying their relative existence and value.

The earth is trying to teach humans

that everything is spirit…

Being human is an opportunity

to bring spirit into all that is material…

The quality and intensity

of resonance

emanated from a given point

is thus attracted back.

*

When one brings spirit

into the human realm,

it can spiritualize matter.

Matter can then become lighter,

(indeed liberated),

not as dense as before.

No synonym for God

is so perfect as Beauty.

Whether as seen carving the lines of the mountains with glaciers,

or gathering matter into stars,

or planning the movements of water,

or gardening – still all is Beauty!

There is not a “fragment” in all nature,

for every relative fragment

of one thing

is a full harmonious unit in itself.

When we contemplate

the whole globe

as one great dewdrop,

striped and dotted

with continents and islands,

flying through space

with other stars

all singing and shining

together as one,

the whole universe

appears as an infinite storm of beauty.

June 20 Between 054People usually consider

walking on water or in thin air a miracle.

But I think the real miracle

is not to walk either on water or in thin air,

but to walk on earth.

Every day we are engaged in a miracle

which we don’t even recognize:

a blue sky, white clouds,

green leaves, the black, curious eyes of a child

— our own two eyes.

All is a miracle.

Overcome your uncertainties

and free yourself from dwelling on sorrow.

When you delight in existence,

you will awaken,

and become a guide to those in need,

revealing the path to many.

That is where my dearest

and brightest dreams have ranged —

to hear for the duration of a heartbeat

the universe

and the totality of life

in its mysterious, innate harmony.
